Gutter Bin Project

After a year of discussions and planning with Frog Creek Partners and the City of Riverton, LWRCD helped place 19 gutter bins within drains around Riverton on October 19th. What are Gutter Bins you may ask? These manufactured gutter systems (called gutter bins) and mundus bags are placed inside existing drains, and help remove trash, microplastics, sediment, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, tire treads, and cigarette butts from entering downstream waterways and systems.  We’re grateful for the City of Riverton’s Public Works Department for taking this idea on with us, seeing it to fruition and carrying it forward.  We look forward to seeing how they work and how much garbage they collect! If you notice silver medallions on sidewalks around Riverton with the LWRCD stamped on it, you’ll know that’s where a gutter bin
has been installed! To learn more about Frog Creek Partners and the gutter bins check out their website! https://frogcreek.partners/

Wyoming Nonpoint Source Task Force & Wyoming Natural Resources Foundation

Chairman Nick Biltoft was appointed by the Governor to be part of the Wyoming Nonpoint Source Task Force. This is an honor for him as the Governor only chooses 13 citizens to be members of the task force board. The primary function of the task force is to recommend local water quality improvements for grant funding. The goal of the nonpoint source program is to preserve and restore the quality of Wyoming’s surface and ground water resources.  Nick also joined the Wyoming Natural Resources Foundation (WNRF) Board of Directors in 2023.

Resource and Community Enhancement Project Highlights

Topo Box at the CATS Museum!

As part of a Community Enhancement project, the LWRCD partnered with Central Wyoming Children’s Center for Art, Science and Technology (CATS) to bring in a new educational exhibit. We were thrilled that CATS also reached out to us to help with a Science Saturday on November 11th to talk about and share insightful information about the new interactive Topo Box, topographical maps, in particular, the fascinating contour lines of Crowheart Butte! If you like maps as much as we do, we encourage you to head to CATS to and check out this new exhibit. We’re excited
about this new partnership with CATS and for future opportunities to learn together.

We Sponsor Dog Waste Stations Throughout Riverton!

The LWRCD sponsors five Doggie Waste Stations throughout Riverton. They are placed where pet owners walk and/or exercise their dogs and where outdoor youth activities will occur. We are helping to minimize health hazard by providing these stations for people to use to pick up their pet’s waste. By doing so we can all help to improve our community by providing easy access to waste bags and collection units.

Richard presented a check to the Stock Doc staff to sponsor these waste stations on September 18th, 2020.
